“To take away our sins.” Not merely to lessen, but to take away; and to take away, not some, but all; “to take away our sins.” This work is a complete work, as are all the works of God. Jesus was manifested to do this; and what He does He does perfectly. Are our sins then completely taken away? If so, how is it that we feel them still, and that they do so vex and harass us, and that we must still watch and pray? Their guilt is quite gone. No sooner do we look to Christ as our Redeemer, and plead His atoning blood for our forgiveness, than we are forgiven: all the guilt of past sin is gone; He has taken away our sins, never again to be brought up against us.
