How poorly does that man judge of things, who can prefer the honour of man before this honour which cometh of God only? and what wretched notions must he have of good and evil, who is greedy in his pursuits after the transitory riches of this world; whilst his desires after the unsearchable riches of Christ are cold and languid? That man surely makes a miserable exchange, who can despise and turn away from the comforts and endearments of a father's table, to feed on husks with swine, such tempers and characters as these fit with an ill grace upon us, whose office and duty it is by example as well as precept, to warn others of the danger of them: Let us therefore my brethren, watch and be sober, that the ministry be not blamed; and both by doctrine and practice, let us shew to all around us, the power and efficacy of redeeming love.
