When the World lies in its blood, and in gross darkness, and the shadow of death, then is the fittest time for the day-spring from on high to visit it. Accordingly now comes Christ Jesus into the World, and he comes full of Grace and Truth, even of that grace which creates truth in the inward parts, writes the Law in the Heart, and not in Tables of Stone. For as the Law was by Moses, even that dead Letter, which found man’s heart stony, and so left it. So came Grace and Truth by Christ Jesus; even that grace which by the efficacy thereof turns hearts of stone into hearts of flesh, and so writes the Law of God in them, that the gates of Hell cannot prevail against them, nor blot out this Writing.
