I often anticipate that solemn hour which is to witness the close of my earthly life, and I ask whether my peace and hope are steadfast, and whether I can enter fearlessly the realities of eternity. It is then that I realise the worth, the power, the calm sovereignty of the promises of God. "He that hath the Son hath life:" and I realise that doctrine of grace that I have Christ indeed, because I firmly believe that He is living in His Father's presence in heaven, and that in Him and by Him have been wrought out and fully accomplished the redemption and eternal salvation of those whom the Father has given Him. Here,—emphatically here,—is the repose of my soul, and the ground of my expectation.
