We may infer from the subject what is the great design of the Gospel-ministry. It is to awaken sinners to a sense of their iniquities, and bring them to repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Agreeably we find Paul commissioned to the Gentiles for this important end, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. From this it is evident, that moral blindness is removed; saving conviction excited; spiritual freedom effected; and regeneration accomplished, through the instrumentality of Gospel-preaching.
