Forgotten mercies are lost blessings, therefore the Lord calls us to "consider." If we were not so busy outwardly, we should oftener raise our Ebenezer to the glory of God, and the refreshment and encouragement of our fellow-travellers. When the Lord reminded Jacob of the past, when he fled a fugitive from his enraged brother, He was still leading him about and instructing him, as He does his wilderness family to-day. He will not have His children, whom He is about to bless yet more richly, either uninstructed or forgetful of the mercies already bestowed on them. "Whoso is wise and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving-kindness of the Lord" (Ps. cvii. 43).
