Man was originally made to enjoy the pleasures of friendship with heaven; but sin soon interrupted these sacred delights. Now, man is at enmity with God, by wicked works; and how can two walk together except they be agreed. In due time, therefore, Christ appeared as the great and glorious, as well as the only mediator between God and man; and having made peace with God by the blood of his cross, he reconciles us to God. And when we are restored to honourable friendship with heaven, by sanctification of the Spirit unto obedience, and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus, we become fellow citizens with the saints, and the friends of Jesus Christ.
