And how wonderful is the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, seeing the sinful and miserable condition of fallen men, and their utter inability to lift themselves from the horrible pit into which sin has sunk them, and which is discovered to the convicted by the light of the Holy Spirit, left the bosom of his Father, and humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross, tasting death for every man. The understanding of man, in his own will, is indeed unable to comprehend these things, which are revealed only by the Spirit of God. But we have the best authority for saying that the influences of the Holy Spirit are never wanting to those who ask for them.
