Let us therefore learne to praise God for any grace he hath wrought in us by his holy Spirit; yea let us take comfort in it as in a fruit of his eternall and unchangeable love, but let us not so rest upon it, as to make it the onely or chiefe ground of our hope and comfort, but learne to renounce our selves, and all confidence in any goodnesse that is in us, and with humbled soules cast our selves wholly upon the free grace and mercy of God in Christ; and say with the Apostle Phil. 3.3. We are the circumcision which — rejoyce in the Lord Iesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
