How are men to apply for salvation? The question is already answered, believe and repent. This answer will be given by faithful ministers to all the inquiring sons and daughters of men. In the dead of night, when the trembling jailer asked what he should do to be saved, faith and repentance were announced the leading requisites to an event so truly momentous. The picture of humanity is not only shaded with original imperfections, it has also, through the influence of habitual sins, received a tarnish indelible to every remedy, but the Lamb of God. Altars stained with blood may arise in vain. In vain may human victims be immolated to the holy divinity. The sacrifice of a humble and contrite heart is the requirement of God from his rational creatures.
