St. Paul describes the unconverted to be without Christ. Ephes. ii. 12. That is, without any knowledge of, relation to, interest in, or communion with him, as their Saviour. The being without Christ is being without Salvation: For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. If the sinner is saved, he must become one that is in Christ: That is, he must come as a lost convinced sinner to Christ for salvation; and by faith in him, as his Saviour in particular, be joined to him; have relation to, and communion with him; and be so far interested in his merits, and partake of his Spirit, as to be one with Christ, and Christ with him; he in Christ, and Christ in him: Then the sinner becomes a true Convert and real Christian.
