When the Apostle Paul saith, we are justified freely by Grace. He excluded the Merit of our Works from justification; as is evident from the Scope, and Context. But he is far from excluding the Atonement made to Justice, by the Redemption that is in Christ. On the Contrary, the Reason, why God hath taken this way of justifying Sinners, by the propitiatory Sacrifice of Christ, is in order to manifest, both the Glory of his Justice, and free Grace, that so he might be just, at the same Time, when he freely justifieth Sinners, through the Redemption that is in Christ. The Justification of a penitent Believer, is an Act of Justice, to the Merit of Christ, and an Act of Fidelity to God's promise, that Christ should see the Travail of his Soul, and be satisfied.
