To change the very nature of men, to take away the heart of stone, and give an heart of flesh, is the sole prerogative of the gospel of Christ. False religion can lay no claim to this power. Not all the systems of idolatry and false religion in the universe can regenerate one soul into a participation of the Divine Image. But by the Spirit of Christ, which accompanies the gospel, multitudes in every age have been brought, not only to change their name and profession, but their very hearts, their lives and conversation. Sinners of all descriptions have felt the transforming power of divine truth.
