There must then be in us an humble reliance on the Lord Jesus Christ, for the aids of His Holy Spirit, and all supplies of Grace. A Christ-depending frame of Heart is to be kept up in us, that we may have grace and strength communicated to us. This is what our Lord Himself especially directs us unto, in John 15. 4. Abide in me,—as the Branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the Vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. The Branch derives Juice from the Vine, in order to fruitfulness, by a constant, close adherence to the Vine; So do we derive strength from Christ by constant dependance upon Him. We should therefore frequently renew acts of Faith and trust in Jesus Christ for renewed supplies of Grace.
